I trained as a Geography teacher, but I am also qualified to teach Science and Mathematics. I studied a B.Sc Geography Degree at Loughborough University of Technology and then did my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Nottingham. I come from a long line of teachers, with most of family having taught at some point and I knew that I wanted to be of service to young people in some way. I have been teaching since 1991 in a variety of schools in the UK and Spain. Before coming to Mallorca I had a conventional career, Head of Geography, Assistant Principal and then Vice Principal in a brand new school in West Sussex. During this time I also studied for my NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headteachers) and the IB DP Cat1 Coordinators training.
Of all the schools where I have worked, the most exciting was helping to create a new secondary school. When I decided to return to Spain, I wanted to be part of a team doing something similar but with a different, more innovative approach to education. Escola Global is a unique opportunity to create a holistic school where students have a strong sense of self, the environment, and the rights and responsibilities of being an international citizen. The core purpose of an Escola Global education is to develop young people who question what they see and become involved in making the world more sustainable, equitable and caring. Escola Global wants young people to make a difference and I am working to make this happen. I am unashamedly an academic teacher but I believe that ‘how’ you do things is as important as ‘what’ you do. At Escola Global we aim to nurture a child’s natural curiosity and passion, not dampen it with excessive assessment and pressure.
Outside of school I enjoy the wonderful island of Mallorca. I am a recent Crossfit convert and I take part in trek running and swimming. I have lived in Mallorca for over 3 years now and I make good use of the discounted flights to the mainland to explore and get to know the various Spanish regions.
